Centre of Specialisation

In line with article 7E of the SADC Protocol on Education and Training, the SADC ODL Capacity Building Project, with the financial support from the African Development

Bank (AfDB), established two Centres of Specialisation in Teacher and Secondary Education to facilitate capacity building for regional ODL training institutions through offering of education and training programmes in critical and specialised skill areas. SADC selected Malawi College of Distance Education (MCDE) as a Centre of Specialisation for ODL in Secondary Education in the Region through a competitive bidding process that took place in 2008. The Government of Malawi accepted the designation of MCDE as reflected in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) it signed with SADC on 8th May 2013.

 

Malawi College of Distance Education Centre of Specialisation (MCDE-CoS) commenced the trainings in the identified nine key skill areas for ODL practitioners from eight SADC Member States that were eligible for AfDB funds. MCDE-CoS completed offering the short term trainings in May 2014.  Therefore, this report describes summary of work done, contribution of the trainings towards the desired impact, and challenges faced in the implementation of trainings.
